Frequently asked questions
What is GST?+
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple indirect taxes like VAT, Service Tax, and Excise Duty. GST is applied at four main rates: 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, with some goods at 0%.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?+
CGST (Central GST) goes to the central government and SGST (State GST) goes to the state government - these are levied on intra-state (within the same state) transactions. IGST (Integrated GST) applies to inter-state transactions and goes entirely to the central government, which then shares it with the destination state.
How do I calculate GST on an exclusive price?+
GST amount = Base Price × GST Rate / 100. Total price = Base Price + GST Amount. For example, GST on ₹1,000 at 18%: GST = 1,000 × 18/100 = ₹180. Total = ₹1,180.
How do I extract GST from an inclusive price?+
Base price = Inclusive Price / (1 + GST Rate/100). GST amount = Inclusive Price - Base Price. For example, extracting 18% GST from ₹1,180: Base = 1,180 / 1.18 = ₹1,000. GST = 1,180 - 1,000 = ₹180.
